Last night I had the pleasure of attending a fundraiser for the Vernon Women's Transition House Society. It was International Women's Day and we were treated to the sounds of three local singers. All three women have written their own songs and they sang about life, everyday life. It was very empowering to hear the power in their voices and also the power of their lyrics. A common issue many women struggle with is a sense of unworthiness, of not feeling like they have a right to take up space, of feeling invisible. These three singers and composers demonstrated how each one of us can own our own space by practicing what it is we are passionate about. In the lyrics of one of Tanya Lipscomb's songs, she confidently reminds women that they are worthy and it is an absurd idea to think otherwise. I loved how she reminds us that we belong simply because we exist. Thank you Tanya!
